I myself have been reading the ESRI documentation and the excellent <a href="http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596513986/" rel="nofollow">Learning Python</a> by Mark Lulz. There really should be a book for geoprocessing in Python, but everything I have seen is fairly elementary and a copy of the documentation really.
